Modern guitars were not simply created out of thin air in the 1930s. They evolved from the instruments that preceded them, bearing improvements such as longer necks, solid head stocks, larger bodies, higher string tension, greater volume and superior presence. Our Victorian model is a tip of the hat to an elegant, long lost pre-pre-war aesthetic that deserved to survive into the modern era, featuring half-herringbone (also know as “rope”) purfling, Ivoroid binding and a once-common pyramid bridge.

The Style 150 originated from early signature models designed for artists such as Ricky Skaggs and Bryan Sutton. Built around hand selected specs, these guitars feature world class appointments for world class artists. It started with a request from guitarist Eric Schoenberg, who had been dreaming of an OM with a soft, minimalist cutaway. Dana built prototypes, later partnered with Eric to found Schoenberg Guitars, then worked closely with C.F. Martin to co-produce the Schoenberg Soloist, the first cutaway guitar to come out of Martin’s fabled Nazareth workshop. Perhaps more importantly, the original Soloist helped re-launch the long-forgotten OM, now the world’s second most popular steel-string guitar. Our Soloist Features Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, Ziricote binding and 1920s-style Pyramid Bridge - otherwise sparsely adorned save for Dana’s trademark slotted triangle heel inlay. Few guitars lay stronger claim to the term “Modern Classic”. 

After a lifetime of favoring larger guitars, Dana found the L-DBO’s power-to-size ratio and clear, direct voice ideal for his personal needs: consisting of unwinding in the living room, casual jamming with friends, very occasional stage use, ease of play and ready transportability. He has since acquired several. Dana’s personal model features a coarse-grained Aged Tone Adirondack top, Sinker Mahogany back and sides, Animal Protein Glue and a single, tiny headstock Inlay.

Several years ago, Natalie Maines of The Chicks asked us to build her a white guitar. Unable to bear the thought of covering up wood grain, we ended up using a transparent white tint. Solid Mother of Pearl fretboard markers and tuner buttons ensure that this beauty won't go unnoticed—even from the last row of the concert arena.

For decades, serious flatpickers have known that the simple modification of enlarging a soundhole offers proven benefits. Though originally introduced as a cosmetic hack, we treat the large soundhole with the same respect we reserve for vintage design while retaining, in tribute, a variety of minor details unique to an iconic guitar that inspired a generation of players and luthiers. But we’ve also added a wrinkle of our own, discovering that a large soundhole transforms the OM into the finest small-bodied flatpicking guitar on the planet.
